Are NPCs supported yet?

I haven't paid attention to gothic multiplayer projects for a few months. So I don't really know what people are capable of doing with Gothic Online at the moment.
When looking through the wiki pages I realized that NPCs were never mentioned anywhere. Is it possible to spawn any?
If that's not possible right now, is it a planned feature?
